Introduction

Our mission

FiberFusion is an ETH Zurich student project with the mission of creating a 3D printer for high resolution 3D printing of continuous fiber reinforced composites.

Technical Goals

Features

Our systems achieve the following technical features:

Lightweight Final Product

The usage of standard polymers and lightweight glass fibers enables us to have a lightweight final structure which can find application in many domains.

No Post-Processing

We aim to have all production done in one step with no necessity of post-processing the final product. Once it is out of the printer, it should be done and ready to use.

Great Layer Consolidation

Layer consolidation is one of the key factors that determine the strength of the final product, which is why we aim to optimize for best consolidation.

Precision

Precise manufacturing is important for many applications, which is why our printer has a precision comparable to popular, commercial 3d printers.

Reproducability

Reproducable and reliable production is important when thinking about industrial applications. Our aim is to ensure that all parts will be produced in the same manner.

Strong Final Product

Our fiber-reinforced polymer filaments will ensure very strong final products.

No Extra Time Costs

Our printer will take no more time than well-known printers that are currently used in industry.

Plug and Print

Fibonacci will be able to print very conveniently ("plug and Print") without the user having to worry about having to intervene at any time.

All Possible Shapes

Fibonacci will be able to print all shapes currently possible with comparable commercial printers.

Founding Partners

ETH Zurich

ETH Zurich is a public research university in the city of Zürich, Switzerland. Founded by the Swiss Federal Government in 1854 with the stated mission to educate engineers and scientists, the school focuses primarily on science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

CMAS Lab

CMAS Lab is focusing on design, modeling and fabrication of adaptive material systems and composites structures for application in lightweight systems. Their approach combines experimental techniques, analytical and numerical methods to understand, to simulate and to verify the physical behavior of the developed solutions.

Antefil Composite Tech

Antefil Composite Tech offers a more cost-efficient and cleaner way to produce lightweight structures for industrial applications. Its patent-pending and award-winning technology allows the production of glass fibres that are individually coated with a meltable, recyclable plastic.
